Where to Stay on Montserrat

If you are anything like us, it is definitely a stressful time looking for a vacation rental. You may be travelling to a new country, so what are the standards there? Were the images used online old and altered? It is not easy sending thousands of dollars electronically to a rental home on the other side of the globe with no personal history. But when you do find that perfect home, it is hard to venture elsewhere.

After travelling exclusively to resorts, we rented our first vacation villa in 2017. Since then, we have almost entirely rented villas, and many of them multiple times. Our experiences renting in Montserrat have been that what we’ve previewed online is exactly what we get. It’s comforting. It has enabled us to take that risk and go try other locations and homes without the added stress or fear of misrepresentation.

For us, we have to see the ocean. Which isn’t hard to do in Montserrat. We are not travelling from Chicago, in the dead of winter, to not see and feel the ocean and watch all of the maritime activities that come with the Caribbean. And a pool, we want a pool. After all, it’s vacation! If you can see the ocean and the Soufriere Hills volcano, then you’ve struck gold. But that’s just us. Montserrat has a little of something for everyone.

There are very few “hotels” in the traditional sense of the word on Montserrat.  You will find no chain hotels or sprawling mega-resorts.  You will only find meticulously cared-for homes or estates, many with an incredible history behind them.

Tropical Mansion Suites in St. Johns is probably as close as you will get to a hotel.  While we have not stayed there yet, we do plan very soon to visit for dinner and check the property out.

The Vue Pointe Hotel in Old Towne, while once a large luxurious hotel, now consists of a handful of individual octagonal-shaped cottages for rent.

Rentals on Montserrat are where it’s at.  Whether you are looking for a studio apartment, a bed and breakfast, a guest house on a larger estate, or an entire villa, Montserrat can deliver what you want.

The Montserrat Tourism Authority lists many of these properties on their website, but you can also find many on major websites and local property management companies as well.  Some options are:

Regardless of the route you take in securing your vacation spot, you are sure to love your time on the island.
