The Bahamas
The Bahamas, officially the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, is a archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean consisting of 700 islands and 2,500 cays (small coral islands), located southeast of Florida. Known for its “baja mar” (Spanish for “shallow sea”), the region is world-renowned for its turquoise waters, pristine white and pink sand beaches, and the Andros Barrier Reef; the third-largest in the world. Historically, the islands served as a 17th-century pirate haven for figures like Blackbeard and later became a British colony before gaining independence in 1973.
One such populated island is Eleuthera.
