A simple, flavorful beef recipe served perfectly over rice.  We enjoy it with a side of broccoli or Korean carrot salad.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. beef stew meat
  • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup beef broth
  • 1 Tbsp. toasted sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1½ Tbsp. freshly grated ginger
  • 1 Tbsp. rice vinegar
  • ½ tsp. red pepper flakes, or more to taste
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Add the beef to the slow cooker, followed by the soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 8–9 hours or high for 4–5 hours, until the beef is fall-apart tender.
  3. Remove about ¼ to ⅓ cup of the cooking liquid and whisk in the cornstarch until completely smooth. Pour it back into the slow cooker, cover, and cook on high for another 20–30 minutes.
  4. That little extra step gives the sauce more body, better texture, and all that beautiful glossiness.
